What to Expect from an Osteopathic Consultation at Complete Care Osteo.

Embarking on your journey to better health with Complete Care Osteo is an experience centered on understanding and addressing your unique needs. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, improved mobility, or enhanced overall well-being, our osteopathic consultations are designed to provide personalised, comprehensive care.

Here’s what you can expect during your first visit:

Case History:

On your first appointment, we start by gathering a comprehensive case history. This involves asking a lot of questions to understand why you have come to see us.

We’ll inquire about:

  • The Nature of Your Problem: What is your primary complaint? When and how did it start?

  • Progression: How has your problem evolved since it began?

  • Triggers and Relief: What activities or movements aggravate or relieve your pain?

  • Daily Patterns or Variations: How does your pain vary throughout the day?

  • Goals: What do you hope to achieve from osteopathic treatment?

Additionally, we’ll discuss your work, activities or sports you engage in, sleep quality, diet, and your current and past medical history. This thorough investigation helps us determine any factors that might be contributing to your condition and ensures it’s safe for you to receive osteopathic treatment.

Examination:

Based on the information gathered, we consider several potential causes for your problem and perform various examination techniques to identify the most likely one.

Our examination process includes:

  • Posture and Spinal Mobility: We assess your overall posture and spinal mobility to understand your body mechanics and identify any awkward positions that may be causing or contributing to your issue

  • Specific Joint Examinations: We perform detailed examinations of specific joints.

  • Additional Tests: These may include tests for muscle power, sensation, nerve function, ligament stability, and joint range of movement.

To perform these tests successfully, you may be asked to undress to a level you’re comfortable with. Wearing shorts or leggings and a sports top that allow for free moment is perfect!

Treatment Plan:

After completing the examination, we will explain the most likely cause of your problem and discuss the best treatment plan for you. In most cases, treatment begins during this session and includes hands-on manipulation of the affected joints and muscles. If further testing, such as X-rays or MRIs, is needed, we’ll discuss the appropriate referral methods and any additional advice we can provide at that time.

Aftercare:

At the end of your treatment session, you should have a clear understanding of your condition and pathway towards improvement. We may prescribe exercises you can do at home to continue working on the areas identified during the examination. We’ll also provide other aftercare advice, which may include the use of heat, topical analgesics, compresses, strapping if needed, and suggestions on when you might return to your normal activities.

Your first consultation at Complete Care Osteo is a thorough, step-by-step process aimed at understanding your unique needs and laying the groundwork for effective treatment.
