The Power of Squats 🏋️‍♀️💪

Squats are a fundamental movement that all humans learn as a baby. Squats are great dynamic exercises as they require the integration of multiple joints and muscles.

Benefits of squats include:

1. Strengthens core! 💪

Having a strong core can sometimes be overlooked, as it can improve quality of life by improving balance and posture. Having good balance and aligned posture can east pain in your back. Every day movements will also be made easier with a stronger core, such as turning, bending and standing. Some of the muscles that can be strengthened by squats include, rectus abdominis, obliques, and transverse abdominis

2. Strengthens lower body muscles. 🦵

The muscles in your lower body are responsible for many day-to-day movements, these muscles are some of the largest and most powerful muscles in the body including, your glutes, quadriceps, hamstring, adductors, hip flexors and calves. Squats can help tone and strengthen these muscles which when in good condition can make movements easier and comfortable, reducing pain.

Improving lower body strength can also boost athletic ability. If you are an athlete switching up a regular squat to a jump squat may help you develop explosive strength and speed.

3. Reduces risk of injury 🤕

Improving muscle strength of the lower body can do wonders in reducing the risk of injuries all over the body. Strong muscles mean better execution of full body movements with correct form, balance, mobility, and posture. By doing strength exercises you are not only strengthening muscles, but ligaments, tendons and bones which also contribute to reducing injury risk.

DID YOU KNOW!?

Where you apply pressure through your feet can help target different muscles. If the force is directed through your toes more of your quads will be targeted.  If force is directed through the heels more of your glutes will be targeted. When force is equally distributed through the feet this is when the squat is most stable and targets the leg muscles more equally.

🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ If you want to improve your squat strength, you need to plan your training program with the right exercises.
