Navigating when the winter wonderland throws a curve (snow) ball at you!
It is that time of the year again when we dust off our snow gear and head for the slopes. Whether you enjoy a snowball fights or are a keen snowboarder or skier, mother nature can throw some icy curveballs at you, in the form of snow related injuries.
For many people winter activities are only enjoyed for a couple of months a year, meaning your body may not be accustomed to the specific movements of the activities you are engaging in.
Muscle fatigue and soreness is a very common symptom however some more nasty injuries maybe hiding behind the surface.
Common skiing/snowboarding-related injuries we see include:
Knee: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) sprains or tears, meniscus tears, patella (knee-cap) dislocation and bony fractures.
Head and Neck: concussion and whiplash-type injuries.
Spinal: neck and lower back sprains or impact injuries/fractures
Shoulder: Rotator Cuff strains or tears, and shoulder dislocations
Wrist and thumb: Fractures and sprains
